Welcome to The West Yellowstone Fly Shop and Saving The World Fly Fishing Co. Based out of West Yellowstone, MT, we are an outfitting business specializing in guiding and teaching anglers of all ages and skill levels as well as traveling to exotic and fabled angling destinations. We spend summers fishing and guiding the waters of southwest Montana and the winter months pursuing trout in Patagonia, Argentina.
Our goal is to teach and promote fly fishing as a fun and exciting way to enjoy life and experience nature while stressing the importance of conservation and giving back more than you take from any situation. In other words, saving the world through fly fishing.

Yellowstone Park Waters
YNP waters are in good shape. Rivers like the Gallatin, Gibbon, Gardner, Yellowstone in the canyon, and Lamar Valley waters have all fished. Hoppers, ants/beetles, and various attractors work. On cooler days expect to fish a variety of mayflies. The Madison and Firehole are still a bit warm, but will start to improve as weather cools.
The Madison River below the lakes, in Montana, is in good shape. Cool weather has kept water temps down. Fish are looking up for a variety of terrestrials like hoppers, ants, beetles, and spruce moths. On cloudy/cool days be prepared to fish midges and baetis. Caddis can be found on warmer days. As weather cools browns will start to migrate throughout the system.
Hebgen Lake is fishing great. Callibaetis and Tricos have fish looking up. If you can't get fish to eat on the surface try stripping callibaetis and damsel nymphs, or fishing chironomids under an indicator. Good numbers of 15-20 inch fish are being hooked.
